They may have one of the longest commutes on record - 4,500 miles each way!
"It's worth it," says jet-setting dentist Dr. Konstantin Ronkin, an international crusader and pioneer on a mission to bring healthier teeth, an improved self-image and reduced stress to people on two continents.
Because their pioneering dentistry is high-tech even by American standards, Ronkin and colleague Dr. Evetta Shwartzman (both of whom emigrated to the U.S. from Russia almost 20 years ago), have been advising Russian colleagues for years and now are in the process of setting up the Boston Institute of Aesthetic Dentistry, a first-of-its-kind, state-of-the-art cosmetic dentistry office in Moscow.
While they continue to build their ten year-old Dream Smile Dental practice in Canton, Mass., in recent months Dr. Ronkin and Dr. Shwartzman

have been racking up lots of Frequent Flier miles, while networking with Russian colleagues to prepare promotion of the new office. Dr. Ronkin says the Moscow clinic is long overdue because Russia is behind the U.S. when it comes to cosmetic dentistry: "In Russia, digital x-rays and full-mouth reconstruction, for example, are less common."
21st century dentistry - whether in the U.S. or in Russia -- is no longer just about filling cavities or straightening teeth, say Ronkin and Shwartzman. The annual 100 hours of LVI continuing education has allowed them to offer the latest dental breakthroughs in cosmetic and neuromuscular dentistry. Now the services that used to only be available in "cosmeticly focused cities" such as Los Angeles, Miami and New York are being offered locally, at Dream Smile Dental, and due to the expansion to Moscow, will now be available for the first time in Russia.

Dr. Ronkin and Dr. Shwartzman are proud to announce that their recent completion of the neuromuscular program at the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies has already allowed them to treat many successful TMJ cases.
|
|
Even though half of the American population experience symptoms of TMJ disorder, only 5-25% actually seek treatment.TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorder is a common "jaw joint" malfunction that could signify that the muscles responsible for holding the jaw are out of position. If this is the case, the muscles are working too hard as opposed to being in their natural relaxed position causing one to experience headaches, jaw joint pain, limited mouth opening, ear congestion, dizziness, ringing in the ears, difficulty swallowing, clenching or grinding, facial pain, sensitive teeth, neck pain, chewing difficulties, postural problems, tingling of the fingertips, and even nervousness or insomnia. Neuromuscular dentistry examines this relationship between the muscles, joints and teeth to create the optimum bite that allows the muscles to return to their natural relaxed position.
To achieve the relaxed muscles, the dentist uses an electrical muscle stimulation called a Myomonitor to help the muscles get to that relaxed state.
|
 |
Once that is achieved, the dentist can then appropriately create a bite via normal dental procedures to ensure that the muscles remain in that state and hold the jaw joint properly. This takes the tension off the muscles permanently and relieves those symptoms that 40 million Americans are suffering from. Dr. Ronkin and Dr. Shwartzman are proud to announce that their recent completion of the neuromuscular program at the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies has already allowed them to treat successful cases. "More and more people are being referred to us from various doctors for TMJ treatment, and it's very rewarding to be able to help people who haven't had pain relief in years" says Dr. Shwartzman.
